Studies on the Effects of Puerariae Flos , Curcumae Radix and Sophorae Radix on the Antioxidation

Abstract

|
The antioxidation effects of Puerariae Flos, Curcumae Radix and Sophorae Radix on the radical scavenging ability from 1,1¹-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH), activities of nitrate reductase(NR) and the contents of glutathione(GSH) superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase, lipid peroxidase(LPO) in rat liver cells were examined.
In in vitro studies, DPPH-radical scavenging ability, NR activity were increased according to the increasing of Puerariae Flos, Sophorae Radix concnentrations.
In in vivo studies, the acetaminophen-induced inhibitions of SOD and GSH were significantly recovered by the treatments of Puerariae Flos and Sophorae Radix extracts.
Also, the acetaminophen-induced inhibitions of LPO and catalase activities were significantly recovered by the treatments of Puerariae Flos extracts.
The recovery by Puerariae Flos and Sophorae Radix extract treatment was similar to the level of ascorbic acid treatment. Therefore, it seems that Puerariae Flos and Sophorae Radix extracts have similar effects on the antioxidation compared with ascorbic acid, well-known antioxidant.
